Extended Learning
At ERS, we believe every pupil should have opportunities to reach their full potential and develop the skills they need for life. Learning does not happen only in school, and our pupils benefit greatly from real-world experiences beyond the classroom throughout their time with us.
For younger pupils in KS1 and KS2, learning outside the classroom is an essential way to explore the world in a safe, structured, and engaging way. Our pupils benefit from hands-on experiences that support their classroom learning and help them to apply what they learn in real settings. Offsite visits, sporting events and meeting new people outside school also helps them to develop their communication skills and grow in confidence.
For pupils in Key Stage 3, real-life experiences beyond the classroom help develop practical understanding, resilience, and independence. In KS3 the curriculum is enriched by offsite visits to support their learning in many subjects. Community activities and sporting events also strengthen teamwork, resilience and practical problem-solving skills.
Older pupils in KS4 and KS5 learn important life and work skills through supported visits to colleges, workplaces, and community settings. Students are given opportunities to familiarise themselves with new experiences and environments and to practise essential life skills such as communication and self-management. Such experiences enable students to gain the confidence they need to make a successful transition into the next stage of their life and to prepare for adulthood.
KS4 and KS5 pupils are also able to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which builds confidence, independence, and teamwork, and leads to a nationally recognised qualification that supports their future education and employment.
