Poplar News - 6th March 2026
Yesterday, Miss Nippard and myself took half of the Poplar children to Waitrose. The children were issued with a shopping list and worked in pairs with an adult to find all the items on the list. They then got to pay themselves for their shopping, receive their change and ask for a receipt which we hope you have been able to go through with them.

Meanwhile, selected pupils from Poplar took part in a Primary Panathlon held at Burnham Grammar School. Throughout the day, the children competed in a range of exciting activities including bowling, parachute popcorn, boccia blast and dart throw. The pupils demonstrated excellent sportsmanship during the event, consistently encouraging their peers and celebrating one another’s successes.

In class this week, PIH discussed what makes a good friend in PSHE and explored creation stories in RE. In Art, PIH created a wonderful collaboration of Monet’s waterlilies using gauze, paint and coloured card (see below). PSS have been learning about the course of a river, exploring how it changes from the source to the mouth. They have developed their understanding by learning key features and vocabulary, and by creating a class collage to represent the different stages of a river’s journey. PRN have been exploring the layers found within a Rainforest and are excited to begin building their dioramas!
A reminder that the Poplar parent consultations will be online on Thursday 12 March. Zoom invitations and timings will be sent out early next week. Please be aware that this is separate to the Specialist consultations which are booked through an online link and take place on Tuesday 10 March.
If you have any messages or information for the teachers, please use the Home School Link books which are checked every day. I can also be contacted by email on ingrid.holt@eger-roth.co.uk, but if you have an urgent message please contact Suzie Bennett in the main office.
