PE News - 24th April 2026

Summer Olympics Primary Festival

On a beautiful sunny morning on 24th April, around 70 pupils from Poplar class and Years 3 and 4 at Westfield Primary School, located at the bottom of the hill, took part in a festival led by Sports Leaders from Years 10 and 11.

The activities included archery, axe throwing, Kin-Ball tennis, netball shooting, and much more. It was clear that the younger pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The student leaders had a valuable opportunity to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills, impressing all staff involved, including those from the visiting school.

Well done to all the leaders—it was a pleasure to see you excel during the festival.

In the final week of term, our KS4 students took to the field to have a shot at our 2km cross country course, something which we reintroduced to KS4 PE last year, as a lesson in resilience and persistence ahead of exam season. There was some fantastic effort on display, with everybody completing the course and some students even pushing themselves to break the KS4 record, set by Austin M last year at 8 minutes 53 seconds.

Three students did actually achieve a quicker time than that record, Ali H with 8:48, Ben P with 8:30 and finally Austin M coming out on top again with an impressive 8 minutes 13 seconds.

This improved time has even sparked a bit of competition between Austin and Mr Cairns, with murmurs of a possible race between the two floating around the school. We look forward to seeing if that can come to fruition.

Well done KS4 - Keep it up!
