Life After School
We think it’s important that every child sees school as an initial stage in a lifetime of learning and that the time with us is preparing them for ‘life after school’, not just for hitting educational targets or passing exams. While we aim for all our pupils to achieve the highest standard of which they are capable, we are an inclusive school, not a selective one, and therefore we admit children with a wide range of academic abilities.
Since we monitor the progress of every child individually, we are able to identify challenging targets for each one, and to identify what high achievement means for each child. Of course, academic achievement is not the only achievement that is valued. We also offer opportunity to excel in physical activities, drama and music, and in personal and social development.
Moving On
Children move on from ERS to a vast range of educational and vocational experiences, such as grammar schools, independent sixth form colleges, local comprehensive schools, vocationally based courses at colleges (including some access courses), and the world of work. Our aim is that, when a pupil leaves us, they are ready to take the next step towards a fulfilling and productive life. For some, this may mean moving to the sixth form school or college of their choice; for others it could be a move straight into employment where they will be happy, productive and valued. It is our experience that children who leave Egerton Rothesay after Year 11 will achieve one of these successful next step moves.
